Position Overview:
The Senior Editor, China Communications, works closely with people and programs across Duke Kunshan University to tell engaging stories about the scholarship and accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Duke Kunshan is a young, dynamic and growing institution whose students, faculty, staff, and alumni are from all over the world, so there is no shortage of great stories to be told.
Reports to:
Senior Director, Communications and Public Affairs
Essential Duties:
1. Develop communications strategies, tactics and materials. This includes developing communication materials such as press releases, feature articles, news tips, op-eds, and regular newsletters. Handle other editorial and related duties as assigned.
2. Our writers/editors operate on a “beat” system to ensure that primary areas are covered. The incumbent is expected to cover key areas and build and maintain solid working relationships with media outlets in those areas.
3. Manage a team.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
5. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications:
1. At least seven years of proven success writing in journalism, higher education or related professional context.
2. Fluent in both Chinese and English.
3. Collaborative team player who can also motivate and lead a team.
4. Bachelor’s degree or above.
5. Minimum requirements may be met by an equivalent combination of education, experience, and skills.
