- Position Overview:
Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is a Sino-US Joint Venture University approved by the Ministry of
Education and co-founded by Duke University, Wuhan University and Kunshan City Government. DKU is a non-profit public welfare social organization with independent legal status. The campus is located in Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park, Jiangsu Province.
DKU seeks to appoint one lab technician for undergraduate program in data and computer science direction. Working closely with faculties and instructors, the lab technician will support the emerging,
interdisciplinary courses and curricula, such as assisting in teaching laboratories and course projects, maintain shared lab facilities, assist in lab safety training, assist in arranging workshops and tutorials in order to support research projects associated with undergraduate signature work. The lab technician will
also help in maintaining and upgrading the teaching related hardware/software/cloud infrastructure, establishing lab protocols, and launching instructional tools for undergraduate Computer/Data Science courses.
Reports to:
Chair of the Division of Natural and Applied Sciences
Essential Duties:
1. Establish computer teaching lab protocols and develop user manuals.
2. Manage computer teaching labs user accounts for faculty, staff and students.
3. Allocate computing resources and help students access these resources.
4. Develop instructional tools such as automatic grading tool for computer lab assignments.
5. Maintain and upgrade computing hardware/software/cloud.
6. Create automation job to solve and monitor unknown risk of teaching system issues.
7. Observe students to use computing resources, diagnose potential issues and propose corresponding solutions.
8. Maintain an inventory of equipment & spares in collaboration with asset management office,
procurement and finance departments to assume regular tracking of lab equipment.
9. Assist in setting up shared lab equipment policy, rules, guidelines as well as internal website to
optimize the use of existing equipment.
10. Assist in sourcing of materials, consumables and equipment.
11. Support the development of lab procedures and ensure users are trained in those procedures.
12. Ensure that allocated areas are kept in good order and safety devices are in place and operational.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
14. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications:
1. A master’s degree in Electronic and computer engineering, computer science, data science or other relevant disciplines. Candidates with a relevant bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of working experience will also be considered.
2. Fluency in both English and Chinese.
3. Excellent knowledge in software engineering and data analysis is required.
4. Extensive experience in using MS Office, JAVA, Python, SQL and other script languages is required.
5. Familiar with Linux Shell and Linux Service (Crontab, NFS, SFTP, SSH).
6. Familiar with PHP, HTML, JS, CSS and Web services (Apache, Nginx), SSL etc.
7. Past experience in undergraduate and/or graduate education (e.g., experience as a teaching
assistant) is preferred.
8. Excellent organizational skills and excellent problem-solving ability are required. Strong
interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
9. In depth knowledge of QHSE Systems, preventative measures and laboratory best practices.
10. Good organizational skills and knowledge of applicable rules, regulations and procedures.
11. Experience with computational tools including Matlab, Labview, Python programming and software packages for statistics is preferred.
